Abstract
Innovative Playpark -towards new reality-
With the evolution of technology and the creation of the Internet, the cyber world has created a culture of online communication and virtual connectivity. Decades of Internet growth and with it the usage of digital devices have brought about a change in people’s lifestyle which rely on the Internet. According to MCMC, youth are the group showing more addiction sickness to the Internet which leads to poor physical health issue due to being physically inactive. Hence, this Innovative Playpark is a project that is aimed at improving youths physical health issue by integrating Virtual Reality (VR) and Physical activities to encourage more physical movement from the youth. This Innovative Playpark will feature facilities such as VR physical sports, workshops for learning, and placemaking place to house event.
Extensive research has shown that youth with a higher level of internet addiction, tend to have lower physical activity level. By integrating Virtual reality(VR) into real-life physical activity, can help to attract the youth to engage and encourage more physical activity in order to improve physical health as well as reduce the degree of Internet usage.
Currently, every physical sports centre is lacking excitement. Youth are not getting attracted to. Also, existing VR game centres are mainly focussing on the virtual experience rather than a physical experience. For instance, “ The Rift ‘’ at Mid Valley, the game setting and content is always the same. Furthermore, it is understood that current physical park is too limited to physical activities under one roof. Also, lacking technologies approaches, hardly get public attention and interest, especially young Internet addicts.
Thus, the design intention is to offer youth excitement virtually and in reality by providing physical activities emerge with VR. Featuring spaces that encourage curiosity, discovery, interaction with people and nature. Besides, the design aim is also to enable the youth to contribute game content for the user by providing facilities like workshops and labs to create and share, whereas classes to learn and gain. Eventually, the proposal is a place where youth are able to learn, interact, create and play.
Lastly, the project seeks for collaboration with the surrounding academic institution to be part of the student curriculum in order to gain a new skill and also a new place to hold new sports events with a new kind of VR physical sports tournament.
Project Issue & Statements
Contextual Responses & Analysis
The selected site is located at PJU9, Bandari Sri Damansara. It is an urban context. The surrounding site is fully integrated with residential, institutional and commercial. The proposed site area is 3.65 acre, 14,114 sqm. The land title is under commercial and it has the plot ratio of 1:5.
The site is an urban context. The coming MRT 2 Damansara West is just within 1km distance away from the proposed site. Within the site, there is an existing green belt that tightens up the site from one end to another. It would be a great opportunity to revitalise the green belt into the design.

Design Development
Purpose of this is to show and present the process and journey of this thesis design. The design development and progress from the schematic stage to the final outcome with the support of the comments, guidance and evaluations from every crits and presentation.
